AI Act Ireland: who regulates AI in Ireland? (15 authorities + AI Office)

Ireland uses a distributed model. S.I. 366/2025 designated 15 competent authorities: Central Bank of Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán, ComReg, Commission for Railway Regulation, CRU, CCPC, Data Protection Commission, Health and Safety Authority, HPRA, HSE, Marine Survey Office, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Minister for Transport, National Transport Authority, and the Workplace Relations Commission (DETE, 16 Sep 2025). The Regulation of Artificial Intelligence Act 2026 was signed on 21 July 2026 (Irish Statute Book). It created Oifig IS na hÉireann (the AI Office of Ireland), which began operating on 31 July 2026 (Dáil PQ, 29 Sep 2026). What to do: map each AI system to the authority for your sector (for example, Central Bank for lenders, WRC/DPC for HR tools) and keep an inventory.
