Presumptive businesses
If you opt for the presumptive scheme under section 58 of the new Act, you must discharge the entire advance tax in one instalment on or before 15 March of that financial year (FAQ Q19 / s.408(2)).
Interest if you defer
Interest for shortfall or deferment continues at the same rates as under the old Act: roughly s.424 (old 234B) and s.425 (old 234C) — 1% per month-type charges as explained in FAQ Q20. Plan instalments so you are not guessing in March.
Common mistakes
- Selecting the wrong year on the challan during the 2026-27 transition.
- Ignoring TDS already deducted when estimating advance tax.
- Presumptive filers paying in four instalments when the rule is one shot by 15 March.
- Waiting for a demand. Advance tax is self-computed.
Checklist

- 15 Jun / 15 Sep / 15 Dec / 15 Mar on the calendar (or 15 Mar only if presumptive)
