The EC Sales List explained: Articles 262 to 264 of the VAT Directive
Checklist
- Every intra-EU B2B goods sale and reverse-charge service listed
- Customer VAT numbers checked in VIES
- Totals agree with the VAT return for the same period
- Filed by your member state's deadline
Common mistakes
- Filing quarterly after crossing €50,000 of goods in a quarter, where your member state requires a switch to monthly.
- Leaving out services because only goods were expected.
- VAT return and EC Sales List not matching, which often triggers questions.
- Including B2C sales, which belong in OSS, not the EC Sales List.
Frequently asked questions
Who must file an EC Sales List?
A VAT-registered business making intra-Community supplies of goods to VAT-identified customers or B2B services taxed by the customer under the reverse charge (Article 262).
Can the EC Sales List be quarterly?
Member states may allow quarterly filing for goods where intra-Community supplies do not exceed EUR 50,000 a quarter, and for services (Article 263).
