Input tax credit deadline: claim FY 2025-26 ITC by 30 November 2026, and the 3 other conditions people miss

Last updated 21 Oct 2026 · India

Short answer. Under section 16(4) of the CGST Act, ITC on an invoice or debit note of a financial year can be claimed only in a return filed by 30 November of the next year or the date you file the annual return, whichever is earlier. For FY 2025-26 purchases the last date is 30 November 2026. You also need the invoice to show in your GSTR-2B (section 16(2)(aa)), to have received the goods or services, and to pay the supplier within 180 days.

The four conditions (section 16(2))

  1. You hold a tax invoice or debit note.
  2. The supplier has reported it, so it appears in your GSTR-2B.
  3. You have received the goods or services.
  4. The supplier has paid the tax, and you pay the supplier within 180 days of the invoice date (otherwise reverse the ITC with interest, and re-claim when you pay).
