Changing your GST registration: core vs non-core fields, the 15-day rule and when you need a new GSTIN

Last updated 21 Oct 2026 · India

Short answer. Under Rule 19 of the CGST Rules, apply for amendment in Form GST REG-14 within 15 days of the change. Core fields (legal name, principal or additional place of business, adding or removing partners, directors or similar) need the officer's approval, normally within 15 working days. Non-core fields (for example bank account, goods/services details) are updated without approval. A change of PAN (e.g. proprietorship to company) needs a fresh registration, not an amendment.
